Copacabana, Titicaca, Puno, Isla del Sol
This day starts early leaving Puno at 7:00 am heading to Kasani, where you cross the border to Bolivia (+1 hour), the ride takes about 3 hours. Once entered Bolivia we drive straight to Copacabana (15 minutes) and in the port of Copacabana a private boat awaits us to take us to the island of the sun in a trip of approx. one and a half hours.
Arriving at the island of the sun we enjoy a typical lunch (Apthapi, prepared with local products) and then we will undertake a short but steep walk towards the Ecolodge La Estancia. On the islands of Lake Titicaca there are no cars or roads so you walk all on foot and it is recommended to carry only what is necessary in light luggage. After check-in at the hotel we walk up to a spectacular viewpoint, where we will enjoy the sunset with an incomparable view of the snowy mountains of the royal mountain range (if weather conditions permit). We return to the hotel where we have dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast at La Estancia we descend to the main port of Yumani passing by the sacred fountain of youth and the Inca staircase with its green gardens full of flowers on the sides. Then we travel with our private boat to the island of the moon where the Ñustas (Virgin women chosen for the God of the Sun) lived and where we will visit the remains of the ancient Iñak Uyu temple.
We return in our private boat to the island of the sun and we will have lunch before returning to the Ecolodge to enjoy a rest in one of the most peaceful environments that can be found in Bolivia.
In the afternoon we have the option to explore the southern part of the island of the sun more closely by taking a walk through the town of Yumani where tranquility and beautiful views invite you to stay longer. Visiting the energy point, where the local people realize their offerings to the Pachamama (mother earth), we can understand a little more of the local culture and its Andean worldview. For trekking lovers we can continue our excursion to visit the Pilkokaina Inca temple, a temple and temporary residence of the Inca (Optional: you can also visit Pilkokaina by boat on the last day of your visit).
At the end of the afternoon we have again the opportunity to enjoy the sunset from a viewpoint near the ecolodge. Dinner and overnight on the sunisland.
We enjoy the last breakfast on the island of the sun before we leave to a beautiful walk of approx. 1 hour down to the other port of the community of Yumani, the Japapi port in the middle of green plantations of potatoes, beans, corn and barley.
We return by private boat to Copacabana (approx. 1 hour) and we will visit the church of the ¨black¨ Virgin of Copacabana, the most important pilgrimage site in Bolivia. After having lunch at the La Cúpula restaurant we return to your hotel in the city of La Paz in around 3 hours and a half.
